2016 HIGHLIGHTS

There were three rounds to the competition which started on-line early in 2016:

Round One Preliminary was open to everyone in South Africa by completing an on-line entry form and questionnaire.    At the end of Round One, entries were selected to qualify for Round Two which was based on a variety of skills, creativity, personality and uniqueness.  From this round, 12 finalists were chosen to go to the Finals.    You can meet some of the Top 20 HERE.

Final MasterFlorist™ Competition

The 12 finalists travelled to Cape Town to compete in the final competition being held at the Cape Town Flower Show at the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town in October 2016.

On each of the four days a different themed task (Gifting, Celebration, Wedding and Indigenous) was set and judged with 3 contestants being eliminated each day.

This left a nail-biting final of 4 contestants on the final Sunday.

“AND THE MASTERFLORIST WINNER IS ………”

Following a long deliberation by the panel of judges, the title of MasterFlorist™ was awarded to  Dane Erwee Winner at the Cape Town Flower Show 2016 and a prize of R20 000.  Dane is from Stellenbosch and works at the Okasie company, which offers retail décor and flowers for weddings and corporate events.

After beating contestants from around the country Dane said, “It was great winning the prize and competition was stiff.  I am going to buy a big indigenous tree with the prize money to plant in my garden.”

The flowers for the competitions were provided by Oak Valley Farm, Grabouw and roses by Yes Exclusive Flowers.

Masterflorist™ partner South African Mint, brought their own flair to the event with their unique South African coloured coins.

Floristry personality and TV presenter Jill Manson, took on the role of MC for each of the day’s competitions.
