Ever since she first earned a salary, Karey has had fresh flowers in her house. Her love of flora led her to a realisation that the Cape Floral Kingdom was not being celebrated with a big event in Cape Town. So she set about creating one. She lobbied the industry to gauge interest, endorsement and support for the project and, together with two other shareholder investors, she founded Growth Events (Pty) Ltd, which owns the Cape Town Flower Show. Karey also runs a PR company, Wired Communications, which has extensive experience in marketing events and which is now busy creating media and public interest in the show.
Penny returned to South Africa from the UK after a nine year absence, in order to work on the Cape Town Flower Show. She thought this would be an opportunity to experience being part of an exciting outdoor living event, and didn’t realise how diverse and extensive the show was going to be. Not only has she started to see fabulous garden designs emerging from our horticulturalists and landscapers, but the collaboration and partnerships being forged by this event has been extraordinary. Penny says, “I feel I am part of creating a sustainable legacy and showcase for the Cape Floral Kingdom.”

Blomboy has since become a popular feature on social media and in 2014 he launched “The Gentleman’s Flower Arranging Club”, which has become a popular monthly institution. Alwijn will be curating the Floral Theatre and MasterFlorist™ competition at the Cape Town Flower Show.
